Welcome...

How about a cup of

Technology.
Education.
Art.

This last week, I have been pondering about what "technology" even means. In addition, how its implementation into school systems affects the institutions that host it, the students that use it, and what this means for those who do not have access to the "latest and greatest."

I enjoy this definition for technology from Urban Dictionary

anything that was invented after you were born

...because let's face it, technology is all around us. It's like when you think of tools--> Do you consider the pencil a tool? A stick? A rock?

Or, even better, perhaps it is anything that was invented after your childhood.

Wariness can be found in those who did not grow up with a particular forms of technology. There are Baby Boomers afraid to touch a computer for fear of "doing something wrong." Personally, I am intimidated by job applications that ask of my technology experience, only having had the chance to minutely explore the Adobe Suite.
The same people who are wary of newer technology have capabilities that those comfortable with newer technology can't even imagine. So why is this newer stuff so intimidating?

I'm here to explore the impact technology has on the arts and education (and other related topics!). Also, the possibilities, trends, and exciting ways these ideas can be combined to do great (and terrifying) things.

Until next time,
Do you remember your first experiences with technology in the classroom?

  1. my first tech experience? i remember a PET computer in my classroom in first grade. it used cassette tapes, and did super basic stuff. and of course there was time in the computer labs later with Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego!

i think you raise an interesting point about wariness with technology, lisa.

there's a fear that you might break something, or do it wrong. but ironically technology is a perfect platform for failure. you can save, reboot, or look up another way to do something with google!
